Department of Ayurved Samhita & Siddhanta

The Ayurved Samhita & Siddhanta department is the first and the most important Department of Ayurveda. It imparts the knowledge and understanding of basic principles (philosophical fundamentals) which are described in classical texts, i.e., Ayurved Samhitas like Panchamahabhut, Tridosha Siddhanta, diagnostic and treatment principles. The term Samhita in the context of Ayurved indicates the "Classical Medical Treatises of India."

Samhitas are written in Sanskrit, a divine language; hence, to understand the samhita in their true meanings, Sanskrit is also taught by this department along with samhitas (classical texts) in detail. Curricular details in all subjects of UG & PG courses are ultimately derived from ancient Samhitas.

This department initiates beginners into the scientific foundation of Ayurvedic knowledge base and motivates students to apply basic principles of Ayurved into clinical practice.

The subjects included in this department are Sanskrit, Padartha Vidnyana and Ayurved Itihas, Maulik Siddhant, Ashtang Hrudayam, and Charak Samhita. Department of Rog-Nidan Evam Vikriti Vigyan

Rog-Nidan and Vikriti Vigyan comprises the basic concepts of disease, along with general and systematic methods for patient examination. It also covers systemic pathology and descriptions of various diseases.

Disease arises from the unwholesome interaction between a person and their environment, mediated through an altered sequence of events in the tridosika rhythm, dosa-dhatu (dusya) imbalance, biofire (agni) deficits, and a loss of integrity in the body's internal transport system, the srotamsi. Accurate diagnosis is essential before treatment in any medical system. Although examination methods and assessment criteria may differ by system or the physician’s clinical experience, a scholar or student must first understand the theoretical aspects outlined in the classical texts, apply them to patients, and master them through observation and practice. This subject encompasses the study of etiology (hetu), pathogenesis (samprapti), symptomatology (lakshana), prognosis (sadhyasadhyatwa), and complications (updrava) of diseases as explained by the Brihatrayees.
